An unidentified female patient lives in a psychiatric hospital. A small woman, nearly frozen to death on a cold winter night, was found on a Pori rooftop, trying to seek warmth by curling up in front of an air vent. This gentle-looking, nearly 60-year-old woman is a mystery, as no one recognizes her and she recognizes no one. Without a real name, the nursing staff has christened the woman Sofia. Sofia is in an almost catatonic state, no longer displaying emotions or reacting normally to the outside world. By leading her by the hand, she is able to move from place to place with difficulty and eat a little. However, she is like a shell that has enclosed a person within. The psychiatrists at the facility have diagnosed her with long-term, untreated schizophrenia, which due to some traumatic event has now distanced her mind even further from other people. Making contact with Sofia is nearly impossible, as people seem to be air to her. However, she can speak. "The most important thing is safe, the most important thing is safe, the most important thing is safe," seems to be the only sentence she is capable of repeating. This sentence can be heard from her lips several times a day, each time with the same monotonous, colorless rhythm. At the same time, she sways in place, as if rocking herself into a safe embrace. Another reaction has been elicited from Sofia. Nurses noticed when moving around the corridors with the patient that seeing mirrors triggers an extremely strong fear reaction in Sofia. She then always starts to cry and scream as if in a life-threatening emergency. She also curls up, as if fleeing deeper into her shell from what she has seen. The nurses can't even guess what horrors Sofia sees in the mirrors in addition to herself. Sofia's face has been shown in local newspapers for a long time, but there seems to be few visual observations of her movements in Pori. Finally, however, something promising has been heard: A person working in Puuvilla has seen a woman who looks like Sofia moving into the adjacent apartment a few days before the patient was found, but after that the informant has not seen the woman. Therefore, the key found in Sofia's pocket might finally have a matching door and lock. Could the apartment hold information about her relatives, so they could be contacted? What is the most important thing is safe and what is it? Sofia's Mind – What’s so frightening about it?
